| Acer palmatum 'Sango Kaku' - Japanese Maple aka Coral Bark Maple is known for its striking red bark in the fall and winter. The leaves are mostly green with reddish and pinkish tinges in the spring, then turning medium green in summer. In fall the foliage will turn shades of yellow, orange and reds. In winter the red bark contrasts beautifully against the white snow. ‘Sango Kaku’ is a very attractive small to medium size tree with gorgeous foliage and bright coral bark to liven any winter day. 'Sango Kaku' prefers moist well drained soil but tolerates a range of soil types including sand and heavy clay. Plant in sun to modest shade coral red winter bark color intensifies in cold weather to almost salmon. To achieve the best color, plant in full sun and prune in early spring to increases winter twig color. ‘Sango Kako’ Japanese Maple makes an excellent addition to any garden. The red bark contrasts well in the snow. This Japanese maple can be used around patios or in large containers around a deck or as a specimen tree.
